Competitors must be prepared to show proof of enrollment at the time of the Competition. All competitors must submit a SWGF Competition Application Form and register as participants. Please register by January 4, 2009 in order to ensure your space in the open round. Applications received after January 4, 2009 will be accepted on a space available basis.

Required Repertoire:

Open Round: Nocturno by Federico Moreno Torroba. Additionally, all competitors must present a piece or pieces of their choice. The total time allotted for each competitor in the Open round is 10 minutes.

Semifinal Round: Up to 16 semifinalists must present a 12-15 minute program of their choice. The 1st movement of the Nocturno by Torroba is NOT allowed in the semifinals. Competitors may repeat their free choice from the open round, but this is not required.

Final Round: Four finalists must present a 25-30 minute program of their choice. The Finals program may include any repertoire from earlier rounds, including the Nocturno by Torroba, but this is not required.
Time limits in each round will be strictly enforced, beginning when each competitor begins playing. Time between each piece is counted towards the time limit. Although there is no penalty for exceeding the time limit, competitors will be stopped at the  limit. There is no penalty for finishing early.

Judging:

There are 3 judges: Bruce Holzman, Professor of Guitar at Florida State University, Mary Akerman, three time prize winner in International Competitions, including GFA and Radio France, and Martin Madrigal, nationally distinguished guitarist from Mexico and Director of the International Guitar Festival of the Northeast. There may be additional judges in the final round. Competitors will be judged on all aspects of performance, including musical excellence, technical preparedness, and programming.
